Shah Abdul Lateef Bhitai, the Sindhi mystic and poet, lends this font his name, and Sindhi is the language it was built around. SIL developed Lateef as an extended Arabic font, with the extra letters and the style that Sindhi and other languages of southern Asia need, and it has been on Google Fonts since 2012.
For most of that time there was 1 weight. Then a July 2022 update added 6 more, Extra Light, Light, Medium, Semi Bold, Bold and Extra Bold, so a Sindhi newspaper or textbook can finally have headings that are heavier than its text without borrowing another typeface.
You get 799 characters per style with Latin alongside the Arabic, plus tabular figures for columns of numbers and stylistic alternates.
The Latin is drawn small, a hint at which script comes first here. If you mix English into a Sindhi page, expect to size the English up a little.
