Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Telugu is written left to right with no headstroke, no line along the top of a word to tie the letters together. Jelle Bosma and the Monotype design team gave Noto Serif Telugu a modulated stroke, thick against thin, and with nothing running across the top that contrast is what sets the pace of a line.
The script has been in use in South India since around 1300 CE. Telugu is the state language of Andhra Pradesh, with 74 million speakers by the Noto count, and the same letters serve Sanskrit, Gondi, Chenchu, Savara and Manna-Dora.
There are 9 weights here, Thin to Black, plus Latin for mixed text. Thin is pretty at headline size and too frail for body copy, where we would stick to Regular or Medium.
