Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Small type, set right. PT Serif Caption is the cut of PT Serif drawn for small point sizes, the captions and fine print. It comes as a Regular and an Italic, the italic running noticeably narrower than the roman.
The family behind it has a civic story. PT Serif was the second family in ParaType’s state-backed Public Types project, a year after PT Sans, and it shares that project’s reach: Western and Central European Latin, standard Cyrillic, and the alphabets of the title languages spoken across the Russian Federation. The occasion was the 300th anniversary of Peter the Great’s civil type of 1708 to 1710.
Alexandra Korolkova designed it with Olga Umpeleva, under Vladimir Yefimov’s supervision, and it was released in 2010. The style is a transitional serif with a large x-height, modest contrast, wedge-like serifs and triangular terminals, built to match PT Sans in metrics, proportions and weight.
Pair this Caption cut with the main PT Serif styles in a book or an annual report: main text in PT Serif, the 8 or 9 point notes in Caption.
