Aleo’s italics take up practically the same room as its uprights. Switch a phrase to italic and the line keeps its length, which is handy in a tight layout and unusual enough to mention first.
Alessio Laiso drew it as the slab serif companion to Lato, the sans by Łukasz Dziedzic, and gave the slabs semi-rounded details. Pair the 2 and you have a sans and a slab meant to work together.
The family began with 6 styles. A June 2023 update took it to 18, Thin to Black with an italic for every weight, made it variable, improved the spacing and the drawing, and added Pan African and Vietnamese support.
Where do the extremes belong? Thin and Black at display size only, we think, with Light through Bold doing the reading.
