Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

A Chinese serif with italics is unusual, and Chiron Sung HK has 4 of them, Extra Light to Medium, next to 8 upright weights that run from Extra Light at 200 to Black at 900.
Its Chinese name is 昭源宋體. The designer, credited as Tamcy, started from Adobe’s Source Han Serif, the same base Google ships as Noto Serif CJK, and took the Hong Kong version of its Traditional Chinese glyphs as the material to work on. Each glyph shape was reviewed and adjusted so it displays better on screen and in print. The aim was a modern glyph style that doesn’t belong to any 1 region, close to the commercial typefaces people in Traditional Chinese communities meet in daily life, balancing the standard character forms against the stroke habits of printed type.
Is that a small thing? Not if your readers are in Hong Kong. We’d pick it over a plain Source Han build for that audience, since the shapes come closer to the print they already read every day.
The file is huge, 46,907 characters, with kana, hangul and bopomofo along with Latin, Greek and Cyrillic. The Latin side has small caps, old style and tabular figures, a slashed zero and 7 stylistic sets. It reached Google Fonts in May 2025.
