Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Newsprint and the office laser printer are hard on type. Denis Masharov drew Ledger for unfriendly reproduction like that, low resolution screens included, and most of its choices follow from that brief.
The serifs and terminals are wedges, solid enough for a rough press. The x-height is large, and there is enough contrast between thick and thin to give the letters some life without leaving fragile hairlines. It also takes up more room than you might guess, about 13% wider than Georgia in running text, so expect fewer words per line.
He saw it working in editorial jobs, newspapers and magazines, and also in corporate identity and advertising. Cyrillic is covered along with Latin.
Only 1 Regular weight, though, and no italic. Could you run a newspaper on that? Not alone, and we would pair it with a sans that has a bold for headlines.
