Orelega is Esperanto for “large-eared”. The word is built from orel-, ear, and -eg-, which makes things bigger, and the font itself is a Clarendon with oversized ears, drawn for fun.
Haruki Wakamatsu based the design on René Bieder’s Sagona Extra Bold, then redrew everything from scratch and made many changes along the way. Cyrillic is covered as well as Latin, and contextual alternates are built in.
1 Regular style, heavy and friendly. A bakery sign or a poster headline is where it should go.
