A Note On The Page
Playwrite AU SA Guides · Regular
A short letter, set in the family.
Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

Don’t press the B or I button with this one. Playwrite AU SA Guides has a single Regular style, and a word processor that is asked for bold or italic will invent a smeared, slanted copy of the letters and their ruling, which helps no child.
What the font does have is the South Australian school cursive drawn on top of its own guidelines: baseline, x-height, ascender and descender lines, printed with every letter. Children learning to write see where each part of a letter should stop. The underscore is the teacher’s key, it prints the lines with nothing on them, 1 word space wide, so a row of underscores makes an empty practice line under a traced example.
In Word, open Format, then Font, then the Advanced tab, and switch on Contextual Alternates and kerning, or the letters will not join. Font menus list it as Playwrite AU SA Guides, the AU for Australia and SA for the state. Veronika Burian and José Scaglione made it at TypeTogether as part of the Playwrite fonts for schools.
