Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

New Zealand teachers have had a Ministry of Education booklet called Teaching Handwriting since 1985. It was written because teachers asked which style they should be teaching, the newest edition came out in 2025, and it lays out a path that starts with simplified print script and moves on to semi-joined cursive. Schools mostly build their own practice material from it.
That is where this font fits. TypeTogether, with Veronika Burian and José Scaglione, made Playwrite New Zealand Basic in 2025 to the Ministry’s requirements, and this Guides version carries the same letters with ruling drawn in: lines at the baseline, the x-height, and the tops and bottoms of ascenders and descenders.
Type an underscore and you get the ruling with no letter on it, the width of a letter space, which is how a teacher fills the rest of a row with blank practice space.
There is 1 Regular weight, which is all a worksheet needs.
