Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

Austin Palmer, who lived from 1860 to 1927, put together a cursive method in the United States at the turn of the last century, and Colombian children still learn a descendant of it. Their ‘letra pegada’ is a cousin of the cursive taught in the US, Mexico and Canada, and it reaches the classroom mostly through ‘cartillas’, handwriting booklets from private publishers.
Playwrite CO follows those booklets and leans hard. Its ascenders and descenders are of middling length and looped, so a whole word can go down without the pen lifting, and below the line the f and q repeat the same loop in mirror. A few capitals, the G, L and Z among them, get elaborate cursive shapes that a child would copy slowly.
TypeTogether drew it with Veronika Burian and José Scaglione, working from the Primarium survey of school handwriting models. 4 weights, Thin up to Regular.
Is it only for school? Mostly, and there is Playwrite CO Guides for practice sheets. Outside the classroom it gives a birthday card or a note in Spanish the look of a hand that learned its letters in a Colombian classroom.
