Kære mormor, tak for brevet
Type an underscore in Playwrite DK Uloopet Guides and you get only the ruled lines, a blank stretch the width of a word space. That trick is why teachers like the Guides fonts: a practice sheet can have rows of empty lines for children to fill in, set in the same font as the model letters above them.
Every other character carries its guides too, lines at the baseline, the x-height and the ascender and descender heights, so a child can see the proportions of each letter while copying it. This is the companion to Playwrite DK Uloopet, the Danish unlooped model, in a single Regular.
Denmark’s rules for it come from the Danish Common Goals, set out by the Ministry of Children and Education in 2019. By 2nd grade children must write capitals and small letters both by hand and on a keyboard, and by 4th grade in a legible, joined hand. Teaching starts in preschool with simplified print, and in the middle of 2nd grade or the start of 3rd the school picks a cursive: Grundskrift, unlooped, or Grundskrift med løkker, its looped variant. Uloopet is the first.
