A Note On The Page
Dr Sugiyama · Regular
A short letter, set in the family.
Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

There was never a Dr Sugiyama. When Charles Bluemlein put together his scripts, he collected real signatures and built whole alphabets out of them, and since the results looked nothing like the people who had signed, each new script got an invented name. The designs were shown in Higgins Ink catalogs. Alejandro Paul and Sudtipos revived the collection in expanded digital form and kept those fictitious names, this one included.
The scripts come from a time when New York alone had about 200 professional hand letterers, from the early 1930s through the Second World War, a trade that photo lettering and then digital type all but wiped out.
The lowercase is tiny next to the tall capitals, about a third of their height, so the caps carry each word. 1 Regular style. Use it for a signature line, a monogram, a wedding invitation or the name on a bottle label.
