Danish teachers get to choose. Somewhere in the middle of the 2nd school year or the start of the 3rd, a school picks 1 of 2 cursive models for its pupils, plain Grundskrift or the looped version, Grundskrift med løkker, and this font follows the looped one.
The national rules leave the method open and set the targets. The “Danish Common Goals” document of 2019 from the Ministry of Children and Education asks that 2nd graders write capitals and lowercase both by hand and on a keyboard, and that by 4th grade their handwriting be joined and legible. Teaching starts in preschool with simplified print letters before any of that.
As a Guides font it puts the writing lines inside each glyph: baseline, x-height, ascender and descender. Type a row of underscores and the lines print by themselves, each a word space wide, which turns a blank document into a ruled practice sheet in seconds. Veronika Burian and José Scaglione at TypeTogether released it in November 2024 as 1 Regular.
