Children in Vietnamese primary schools are never taught print letters. Since the 2002 to 2003 school year they have learned the mẫu chữ thảo tiếng việt, the official Vietnamese cursive, in an upright form and, if the school chooses, a sloped one, after first practicing the basic strokes the letters are built from. That teaching happens between Grades 1 and 3. They start with pencils and move on to fountain pens before they leave primary school.
Playwrite Việt Nam turns that model into a font, and this Guides cut lays ruling under each letter, at the baseline, the x-height, and the ascender and descender lines. In font menus it shows up as Playwrite VN Guides, a single Regular.
Veronika Burian and José Scaglione built the Playwrite fonts on Primarium, a study of the handwriting models taught to primary school children around the world. Playpen Sans is their informal companion for the notes and instructions around the exercises, emoji included.
