Digital readout fonts rarely have serifs. Segment does. Frode Helland, a designer based in Oslo, built every letter from segments the way a digital display is built, then gave them serifs, and some older habits crept in too: a wavy top stroke on the 7, a foot on the 2, a long sweeping leg on the R, a styled pound sign.
It is monospaced and caps-only. The lowercase keys give you the capitals again, and nothing drops below the baseline, not even J or Q. 5 extra glyphs show the bare segment grids, more than 12 currency symbols are included, and room is left above and below for European accents. 2 stylistic sets, named Hugging Punctuation and Unhugging Punctuation, swap in alternate punctuation.
Indian Type Foundry publishes it on Fontshare in 1 Regular style. Posters and headlines on digital subjects suit it, and a small shop could hang a whole identity on it.
