MVSEVM OF ANCIENT CITIES
There is no lowercase in Castoro Titling. John Hudson took the capitals of his Castoro text face and “re-hung” them on the proportions of Roman inscriptional letters, the capitals cut into stone monuments. Type a lowercase word and you get capitals anyway, which makes for a very long line next to an ordinary font.
The forms are lighter than the text Castoro capitals and are meant for larger sizes. Something carries over intact from the text family: the extended diacritics for European languages and for transliterating Indian languages, so a scholarly title in transliteration comes out right.
Tiro Typeworks released it on Google Fonts in March 2023, 1 Regular style. Give it generous letterspacing and a large size, and it will do a book jacket or a museum wall proud.
