Type a lowercase word in Syncopate and it comes out at capital height. Brian Bonislawsky of Astigmatic dropped the x-height entirely in 2010: some capitals were copied straight into the lowercase slots, and other lowercase forms, the a, the e and the r among them, were scaled up to stand as tall as the caps. Mixing the 2 cases inside a word is where the fun is, a lowercase a sitting among capitals like it belongs there.
It is very wide. A line set in it needs about 70% more room than the same line in Arial, so 1 short word can fill a whole poster width.
The Regular is light. A true Bold followed in April 2011, and the 2 together are all there is, with kerning and a full set of European accents. Astigmatic thought it could cope with short runs of text as well as display, and we would agree up to a sentence or 2, no more.
