Mariela Monsalve and Angelina Sanchez first drew Ruda for product labels, and that explains most of its choices: a very large x-height with low capitals and open letterforms, so the lowercase carries almost the full height of the line.
The family was reworked in 2019. That round added Cyrillic and stretched the Latin to cover Turkish, and in February 2020 Ruda became a variable font with a weight axis. Here it comes as 6 static weights, Regular through Black.
Ingredient lists and nutrition panels are the obvious use and still a good one. The heavy weights make a solid, chunky headline too, though in long paragraphs the big lowercase can start to feel crowded, so add a little line spacing.
