How do you get a word onto a sweater? You chart it first, square by square, and Sarah Cadigan-Fried’s Soft Type Collection lets a knitter do that charting from a keyboard.
Within the collection, Yarndings handles ornament. Its sources are a mixed bag, printers’ flourishes and 1990s dingbats crossed with the knitting patterns of Fair Isle and the Nordic countries. The number 20 gives the capital height, and other faces in the collection come in more than 1 scale, so you can match the type to the size of the piece. This is the Charted version; the plain one is published as Yarndings 20.
It is a small font, 93 characters, 1 style, no OpenType features. Type a line and print it out next to your needles.
