Ysabeau

Take Garamond, drain out the contrast, drop the serifs, and keep the rest: the long ascenders and descenders, the easy stride, the letter shapes readers know from book pages. Christian Thalmann of Catharsis Fonts built Ysabeau on that recipe, a clean low-contrast sans that grows straight out of the Garamond tradition.

It reads like a book face gone sans. The lowercase is short and the extenders tall, so at any given size it looks smaller than the usual screen sans; set body text a step up, 18 px where you might use 16.

Thalmann suggests pairing it with EB Garamond or Cormorant, which makes sense given its roots. The family can carry most jobs alone, though, with 18 styles from Thin to Black and an italic for every weight. The kit inside:

• fractions, ordinals, superscripts and subscripts
• small caps, reachable from lowercase or straight from capitals
• figures in old style or lining form, each tabular or proportional, plus a slashed zero
• 6 stylistic sets and contextual alternates

1,012 characters reach Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese, with math and symbol subsets as well. Google added it in March 2023. A long-form site or an annual report thick with tables would put all of it to work.
