Japanese kana are full of loops, and Yoshimichi Ohira, whose Zen Fonts are mostly Japanese faces, carried that loop over into the Latin alphabet. Strokes curl back on themselves where an ordinary letter would stop. The whole thing looks bent out of a single thin wire.
Among the Zen Fonts it is 1 of 3 Latin designs; the other 23 families are Japanese, and the collection came to Google Fonts in 2021 as part of a push to widen its Japanese range.
Zen Loop is very narrow, about 40% narrower than Arial across a line of lowercase, and the strokes are hairline thin. We would keep it big. With strokes that fine, the loops need size to read as loops, and a menu title or a label on a jar gives them that. There is a Regular and an Italic.
