Anek means many, and the Mumbai collective Ek Type took the name literally, with many scripts and many hands. The Kannada alone had 2. Vaishnavi Murthy and Maithili Shingre shared it, and Shingre also drew the Malayalam for the same family, while Yesha Goshar did the Latin that comes with it.
Each script in Anek starts from a pool of visual features the team agreed on together, then pulls in what belongs to its own typographic culture and to the designer drawing it. So the Kannada is a sibling of the Tamil or the Bangla, recognizably from the same house, without being a copy of them.
Widths and weights
In its full form Anek stretches from condensed, almost capsule shaped letters to wide ones with room to spare. This file holds the normal width across 8 weights, Thin to Extra Bold. Our preference is the heavy end, for a shop sign in Bengaluru or a festival poster, where the sharp terminals and tapered joins show best.
