Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

The Ink in the name is literal. This version of Aref Ruqaa is a color font, built with COLRv1, CPAL and SVG tables, so the letters carry more than 1 color inside the file itself and need an app or browser that can show them. Where color fonts are not supported, have a fallback ready.
Ruqaa is the classical Arabic calligraphic hand the design tries to capture, and Abdullah Aref drew the original. The project is run from Cairo by Khaled Hosny, and Google Fonts also credits Hermann Zapf, whose AMS Euler gave the Latin its shapes. It came to Google Fonts in 2022.
2 weights, Regular and Bold. The OpenType side is where the work hides: contextual alternates, and 8 stylistic sets to pick variant shapes. There is Latin too, 343 characters in all.
We would use it large, for a book jacket or a wedding card in Arabic, and keep body text in something plainer.
