The crossbar of the e in Aubrey runs on a slope, and the same thing happens wherever a letter would normally carry a level stroke. Gayaneh Bagdasaryan cut those horizontals short and let sloped curves take their place, then hung small spurs on some of the letters, so a word set in it keeps skipping a beat. The roots are in art nouveau.
How narrow is it? Set a paragraph in Aubrey and again in Arial, and Aubrey’s version is 23% shorter, enough to fit a long name on a small card.
Cyreal published it on Google Fonts in July 2011, 1 Regular style with Western European Latin. The designer’s notes suggest holiday decorations and greetings and ask for medium and large sizes, and we agree with that limit: the thin, broken strokes that make it lively are the first thing to vanish in a caption.
