Grandma's winter scarf pattern

Around 1880 in Berlin, Heinrich Kuehn designed a Victorian needlepoint alphabet in a loosely bastarda style. Sarah Cadigan-Fried revived it, expanded it, and put it in her Soft Type Collection, a set of typefaces made so knitters can chart out lettering for their projects.

The 9 is a measurement. In this collection the number after the name gives the height of the capital letters, so the size of the type on a sweater is planned before the first stitch. Each face also comes in a Regular and a Charted version, the Charted one meant for laying out the chart itself. This is the Regular.

Away from the needles, a craft fair banner or a beer label would wear it well.
