The rule was 1 day. Tagesschrift, German for “day-font”, was written with a broad-nib pen, digitized and adjusted inside that single day, and Yanone left the evidence in: edges that wobble, strokes that swell where the nib turned, no 2 curves quite alike.
Under the rough skin it is a casual Antiqua, a serifed roman with traditional bones and quirky manners. Yanone’s own suggestion is packaging and advertising, and we would add that it wants to be set big and heavy, on a jam label or the side of a beer can. In a long paragraph the texture turns into noise.
Google Fonts added it in December 2024. There is 1 style, a dark Regular, with Latin Extended for Central European languages, standard ligatures, localized forms and case-sensitive punctuation for all-caps lines.
