OCR lettering, the screens of old and imagined operating systems, the 1990s: all of that was on the table when Martin Vácha started sketching Azeret Mono at Displaay. By the end he had narrowed the aim to a face that could live inside an operating system itself, and the early wandering survives in its details. Daniel Quisek shares the design credit.

The strokes are monolinear, 1 even line throughout.

16 stylistic sets is a remarkable number for a monospace. Swap them in and out and the font changes character, and with a slashed zero, tabular figures and contextual alternates on top there is plenty to fiddle with before you settle on a terminal look.

18 styles, Thin to Black, every one with an italic that sits in exactly the same cell as its roman, which is what a mono needs. The cells are roomy, so an 80 column limit arrives sooner than it would in Consolas; drop a size if you work to one. On a dark editor theme we would start at Medium, since thin strokes on black tend to fade.
