Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Soup of the day, onion
Copperplate Gothic is mostly known as a capitals face, and the bistros and cafés of New York and Paris that inspired Dario Manuel Muhafara tended to use it that way. Balthazar adds a lowercase. That alone makes it handier on a menu, where a dish name in caps can be followed by a description in small letters.
Muhafara loosened the proportions a little from the condensed original, gave it diagonal stress and a soft contrast, and made it bolder than usual so it would rasterize well on screens. The serifs are small and sharp. It sets narrow, which suits a blackboard menu with long lines.
1 Regular style, basic Latin, released through his foundry, tipo.
