Vernon Adams made Tienne in 2011 by blending 2 existing Google fonts, Droid Serif and Artifika, with interpolation, the trick of calculating new outlines partway between 2 designs. Neither parent wins outright, and you can see something of each in the result.
He meant it for display and text alike, in browsers on computers and phones. There are 3 weights, Regular, Bold and Black, and it sets wide for a serif, so a headline in the Black takes up real estate. For long reading I’d stay with Regular at a comfortable size and let Bold handle the subheads.
