The “In” is about how the round letters begin. In this version of Betania Patmos, a, c, d, g and q carry an entry stroke when they start a word or stand alone, a small lead-in that the main version leaves off.
Carolina Giovagnoli designed the family at Huerta Tipográfica as a contemporary handwriting model for teaching children to read and write, working alongside teachers and education specialists. The shapes are deliberately austere. Each letter keeps only its ductus, meaning the order and the direction in which its strokes are written, so a beginner has less to puzzle over and nothing is there for decoration.
The practical side was thought through too. Its OpenType behavior rests on contextual alternates modeled on Rosalie Wagner’s Borel, so it works in ordinary software like LibreOffice and Microsoft Office, and the slightly condensed proportions fit more words on a line and a page.
