Will it work in plain old Word? That was a design requirement. Carolina Giovagnoli built the OpenType side of Betania Patmos on contextual alternates, following the approach of Rosalie Wagner’s Borel, so the features behave in LibreOffice, Microsoft Office and even simple text editors.
It is a handwriting model for literacy education, and Giovagnoli worked it out with teachers and education specialists. The letters are austere on purpose. Each one is reduced to its essential ductus, the order and direction of its strokes, so a child learning to read meets as little ambiguity as possible and nothing decorative to puzzle over.
The proportions are slightly condensed, which puts more words on a line and a page. Huerta Tipográfica published it on Google Fonts in January 2026, 1 Regular style with Latin extended accents.
