Every letter in Bitcount Grid Double is 6 pixels wide, an i as much as an m. That is what Grid means in Petr van Blokland’s system, and to fill the spare room around narrow letters like l and i he adds serifs, though Bitcount is a sans at heart.
Double means stems 2 pixels thick. Van Blokland admits that could read as bold, and he compensates with very small or light pixels.
Fixed widths make 2 things easy. There is no kerning to fight, and layers line up: set the same word twice in different colors and pixel shapes, nudge 1 copy a little, and you get shadows and highlights. His own example puts Grid Double on a running LED display, 7 pixels high and 6 wide.
9 weights run from Thin to Black, with small caps, old style figures, a slashed zero and 3 stylistic sets. Put it on a scoreboard or a departure board.
