Open Cairo Play in a browser that handles color fonts and the marks come up in a second color, apart from the letters they sit on. That is the whole difference from regular Cairo. The font uses the COLRv0 and CPAL tables, the layered color format, where each glyph is stacked from layers and the palette says what each layer is painted.
For Arabic this has a practical side. The vowel signs and other small marks are where a beginner trips, and having them pop out from the base letters could help a learner, or a teacher putting together a reading sheet, see what is letter and what is pronunciation. We would try it there before we tried it in a logo.
Mohamed Gaber drew Cairo, with the Accademia di Belle Arti di Urbino credited alongside him, and the Latin side comes in the same 8 weights as the Arabic, from Extra Light at 200 to Black at 900. Kerning, fractions, ordinals and superscripts are included. Play went into Google Fonts in 2022, a good while after the Cairo project started in 2009.
