Capitals and lowercase were set at a 3:2 ratio on purpose.
Saurabh Sharma fixed that proportion, cap height to x-height, as his answer to legibility at every size, and when we measured the regular the x-height came to 0.67 of the cap height, which is 3:2 to the 2nd decimal.
The shapes are geometric with a slight contrast in the strokes. Sharma meant it as a workhorse for web and mobile apps, and the feature list agrees with him: case sensitive forms for punctuation between capitals, fractions, ordinals, superscripts, localized forms, standard ligatures. The font first came out in 3 weights and was converted to a variable font with a weight axis in June 2021; what you download here are the 9 static weights, Thin at 100 to Black at 900, with no italics.
Use the heavier end for app headers. In a long article the round geometric letters would get tiring, we think, so we would put a quieter face in the body and leave Kumbh Sans for the labels and buttons around it.
