동글 is a Korean sound word for something round or curved, said with a sense of something adorable, and Yanghee Ryu named the typeface after it. Dongle is a modular Hangul design that breaks out of the usual square frame each syllable sits in, which gives a line of text a bouncy, rhythmic movement.
A practical warning: the letters sit very small on their body and they are narrow. Set Dongle at a much larger size than you would set an ordinary font to get the same visual size, or a headline will look shrunken next to its neighbors.
There are 3 weights, Light, Regular and Bold, with Latin and Vietnamese alongside the Hangul, more than 12,000 glyphs in all. For a snack wrapper or a children’s channel thumbnail it does its job well.
