Subrayada is Spanish for underlined. In the Montserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires, old shop signs and posters often ran an underline straight into the letters themselves, and this sister of Montserrat keeps that habit.
Julieta Ulanovsky started the Montserrat project to save the urban lettering that went up there in the first half of the 20th century, before redevelopment wiped it out for good. Subrayada is the most specialized branch of it. Each letter stands on a thin rule drawn along the baseline, and even the word space carries a piece of it, so a whole shop name comes out underlined from the first letter to the last. It is capitals only: type in lowercase and the same wide capitals appear.
There are 2 weights, Regular and Bold, and 227 characters, which reach the accented letters of Spanish, French, German and Portuguese, the ñ and the inverted ¿ included.
Put a single word in it, a shop name or a café sign. A sentence is too much.
