The Mumbai type collective Ek Type set out to make 1 family that would hold every Indian script together, and to do it without letting the habits of any 1 script push the others around. Mukta is that project in its open form. Mukta itself is by Girish Dalvi and Yashodeep Gholap, other branches handle Gurmukhi and Tamil, and Mukta Vaani is the Gujarati one, drawn by Noopur Datye and Pallavi Karambelkar with help from Sarang Kulkarni and Maithili Shingre.
The letters are humanist and monolinear, the stroke staying even, and the Gujarati and Latin share weight and color, so a sentence that switches scripts halfway does not jump.
7 weights, ExtraLight to ExtraBold.
The Latin side has more in it than you might expect from a family built around an Indian script: small caps, old style and tabular figures, fractions, subscripts and superscripts. We would use it for a bilingual menu or a website for a Gujarati audience, and the Bold for headings over Regular text.
