Swap Roboto for Heebo on a bilingual site and the line spacing shifts. That’s deliberate. Heebo takes Christian Robertson’s Roboto Latin and adds a Hebrew drawn by Oded Ezer, and because the Hebrew is the primary design here, the vertical metrics were set for it and differ from Roboto’s.
Another difference: Roboto is hand-hinted and Heebo is auto-hinted, so on older Windows machines Roboto may render a little better.
Meir Sadan mastered the font files. The family went variable in May 2020, and a November 2023 update fixed Hebrew bugs and widened the language support. The static set on this page runs from Thin at 100 to Black at 900 in 9 weights, with small caps and 2 stylistic sets. For an Israeli app or website that needs Hebrew and English side by side, with the familiar Roboto feel on the Latin side, it is the obvious candidate.
