Letters from old Khwarazm
From Imperial Aramaic to Arabic, with Chorasmian in between.
The Chorasmian language was spoken in Khwarazm, in Central Asia, and from the 2nd century BCE until the 9th century CE it was written in its own abjad, a right-to-left script derived from Imperial Aramaic. Then the language moved over to the Arabic script, and later died out altogether.
Noto Sans Chorasmian covers the 32 characters of the Chorasmian Unicode block, drawn as a plain sans for Google’s Noto project. It was added to Google Fonts in 2022 in 1 Regular style, with Latin for the surrounding text.
Its readers will be scholars, mostly, and the occasional museum that wants an inscription transcribed in the right letters.
