Malayalam has been written since about 830 CE. The script grew out of the Vatteluttu alphabet, counts 15 vowel letters and 42 consonants, and now has some 38 million users, mostly for Malayalam itself, the official language of Kerala, with Irula, Paniya and a few other languages besides. Software has to shape it properly for the letters to combine.

The Monotype design team drew this Noto sans, unmodulated, with a Latin set and some Devanagari characters. 9 weights, Thin to Black, no italics.

On a ferry timetable or a bus board, Medium or Semi Bold will read from further away than Regular does.
