Small text on a low-resolution screen: that is the situation Amiko was built for. Pablo Impallari, Rodrigo Fuenzalida and Andres Torresi drew it together at Impallari Type in Rosario, Argentina, aiming for the most legible Devanagari and Latin they could manage at the smallest text sizes, for body text on the web.
Other designers shared what they knew along the way, and the project thanks Pria Ravichandran, Erin McLaughlin, Girish Dalvi and Dan Reynolds among its reviewers.
So the letters are plain on purpose and fairly wide, which costs some line length but buys clarity in a 12 px caption or a phone menu. Regular, Semi Bold and Bold are the 3 weights. Put it where the text is small and the screen is poor; for big headlines there are more characterful choices.
