Australian teachers must use the handwriting style their state mandates when they teach children aged 4 to 9 to read and write. In New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory that begins with Foundation Print in years 1 and 2, simple sloped letters for learning basic formation, and Beginner Cursive follows from year 3. Edu NSW ACT Foundation is the print stage.
Tina and Corey Anderson drew it for Google for Education, and it sits inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides as well as here, which counts for a lot in schools that run on Chromebooks.
The Regular is drawn at the thickness of a pencil line, so letters on a worksheet look like ones a child could make. Medium, Semi Bold and Bold are there for headings. 126 characters, basic Latin with common math symbols, and small caps too, oddly enough for a school font.
