Roger Excoffon (1910 to 1983) played with letters that are heavier at the top than at the bottom, an idea few designers have taken further since. Alisa Nowak did. Excon is her tribute to the French designer, a top-heavy sans that also borrows from French sans serifs of the 1950s and 1960s, down to the habit of pairing a double-story a with a single-story g.

The contrast grows with the weight, close to none in the Thin and plenty in the Black, over 6 steps, and this download is the Regular. Ascenders reach above the capitals.

On a logo or a magazine’s section heads, it has a point of view.
