Fresh dhokla every morning
Pooja Saxena documents local street lettering and collects printed ephemera on the side, and to our eye Farsan carries some of that informal, hand-drawn energy in both of its scripts. It is a narrow, single-weight display face for Gujarati and Latin, dated 2014 and on Google since 2016.
Saxena is a type designer and researcher whose work centers on Indian scripts, Devanagari above all. She studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi and finished the MA in Typeface Design at Reading in 2012. Her other Google families are Cambay, a Devanagari sans drawn to pair with Cantarell, and Playpen Sans Deva.
Farsan carries contextual alternates and covers Vietnamese on the Latin side. It is narrow enough to fit a long shop name on a small board.
