Postcards from the long road
Julia Petretta spent her days in Kenya sketching and lettering, and Kenia grew out of those notebooks into a stencil display font. The odd part is what happens when it gets small. At small sizes the text takes on the look of an old German gothic, which the designer saw as a feature and suggests it for intro paragraphs and short text as well as headlines. We would keep it in headings; the stencil breaks are part of the fun only when you can see them.
