Tiny map, big dungeon

8 pixels and a lot of borrowing

Ark Pixel Font, the base of Fusion Pixel, is only drawn at 10 and 12 pixels, so at 8 the stitching goes furthest. Japanese kanji at this size are Misaki’s. Simplified Chinese comes out of MisekiBitmap, traditional from BoutiqueBitmap7x7, each a separate bitmap project. The Hangul is Galmuri’s, as it is at every Fusion size, and this ko build takes its Hanja forms from KS X 1001 and KS X 1002.

Upstream has since renamed the family Fusion Pixel 8px Prop ko. Same font.

The 8px file leaves out Greek and Cyrillic and sticks to Latin, kana, Hangul and the Han set, 28,409 characters in all. Spacing is proportional with kerning. We think it is at its best in a status bar or a small HUD where 10px would crowd the screen, and less good for long dialogue, where a Hangul syllable built from 8 rows of pixels asks more of the reader.
