Genos

The capitals of Genos barely clear the lowercase. Small letters come up to about 87% of the cap height, so a word in mixed case looks almost like a row of even blocks, and that flat skyline is a good part of why the face reads as futuristic. Robert Leuschke also had industrial and technical work in mind for it, a control panel as much as a film title.

It is a big family. 9 weights run from a hairline Thin at 100 to a Black at 900, each with an italic, and the italics keep the same width as their upright partners, so you can swap one in mid line without the text shifting.

Cherokee, of all things

Less expected is the script support. Alongside Western and Central European Latin and Vietnamese, Genos carries the Cherokee syllabary. A Cherokee language game or a community event poster could use it at every weight.

The feature list is long for a display font: tabular and old style figures, 2 stylistic sets, discretionary ligatures, fractions and superscripts. Our view is to keep it to headings and interface labels. The letters are narrow and the caps short, and over a paragraph that sameness becomes tiring to read.
