The lowercase of Grandstander comes up almost to the top of the capitals, nearly 90% of their height, which gives a word a chunky, all-of-a-piece look. Tyler Finck set out to blend handmade elements with smooth, precise drawing.
Finck works from Ithaca, New York, where he started Etcetera Type Co in 2018 as an open source foundry. Google Fonts added Grandstander in July 2020.
- 9 weights, Thin to Black, each with an italic that takes the same width as its upright
- the Latin Plus set, which the project lists as more than 200 languages, Afrikaans to Zulu, with Klingon thrown in
- a slashed zero and tabular figures, should a scoreboard need them
The Black is the obvious headline weight. The Thin is the curiosity, a party font drawn with a fine pen, and it has its uses on a big poster.
