Stories told in signs and marks
Nsibidi is a system of drawn signs from the Cross River region that Nigeria and Cameroon share, used by the Ejagham, Ibibio, Efik and Igbo peoples in pictograms tied closely to storytelling. Seun Badejo took it as the starting point for Agu Display, a set of Latin letters with that heritage worked into them.
The signs have had a second life in recent years, in fabric patterns and tattoos and on screen in Marvel’s “Black Panther”, and Badejo sees the font as part of keeping that tradition in use.
It is a single Regular style, and wide. Use it for an album sleeve or the banner of a cultural festival, big and with few words.
