Happy Ugadi to the whole family
Its 2 halves come from opposite ends of the world. The Telugu in Gurajada is a handwriting design by Purushoth Kumar Guttula, drawn in 2013 and published by Silicon Andhra; the Latin was made by Juan Pablo del Peral at HT Fonts in Argentina, and first came out as Alegreya Sans.
The pairing works because the job is narrow. Gurajada is meant for display work in Telugu, headings and invitations, where the handwritten letters carry the mood and the Latin only has to keep up with a date or a name. Behind the project, as its lead, is the Hyderabad type designer Appaji Ambarisha Darbha.
The Latin sits small and narrow beside the Telugu, so for an English line of any length we’d switch to Alegreya Sans itself. 1 style, kerning included.
